Vietnam has sought increased backing from the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the World Economic Forum (WEF) to bolster its trade, investment, and long-term economic growth. During discussions held in Switzerland, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Văn Thắng emphasized Vietnam’s dedication to a global trading system grounded in rules. He urged the WTO to expedite its reform processes, revitalize its dispute settlement mechanism, and broaden its scope to address emerging sectors like digital trade, artificial intelligence, climate change, and supply chain resilience.
Thắng outlined Vietnam’s aspiration to achieve high-income status by the year 2045. To this end, he encouraged the WEF to enhance its collaboration with Vietnam by facilitating investment, fostering innovation, and strengthening public-private partnerships. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of developing international financial centers as part of the country’s growth strategy.
Representatives from the WTO and WEF responded positively to Vietnam’s ongoing economic reforms. They expressed their commitment to continue supporting Vietnam in areas of trade, investment, and capacity-building initiatives. The discussions underscored Vietnam’s proactive approach to integrating into the global economy and addressing the challenges posed by rapid technological and environmental changes.
