China’s foreign trade has experienced significant growth in the first eight months of the year, with total imports and exports of goods reaching an impressive 34.78 trillion yuan, equivalent to $5.18 trillion. This figure reflects a 17.6% increase compared to the same period last year, showcasing the robustness of the country’s trade activities.

Breaking down the numbers, exports surged by 14.6%, amounting to 20.17 trillion yuan, while imports saw an even greater rise of 22%, totaling 14.61 trillion yuan. This trend of growth underscores a healthy expansion in both sectors of China’s trade, with imports outpacing exports over recent months.

The momentum continued into August, where trade growth further accelerated. During this month alone, total goods imports and exports soared by 19.8% year-on-year, reaching 4.65 trillion yuan. Exports during this period increased by 18.6%, and imports grew by 21.7%, contributing to the strong overall performance in China’s trade figures.

Notably, both exports and imports have consistently recorded double-digit growth year-on-year for four consecutive months. This sustained expansion highlights the resilience of China’s trade sector amid global economic challenges. Furthermore, for the past six months, the growth in imports has surpassed that of exports, indicating a particular strength in China’s demand for foreign goods.
